Once you move off-premises to the cloud, you have three basic choices:
- Software-as-a-Service (SaaS): renting the app (and implicitly everything under it)
- Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS): renting everything but the app (often used by app developers)
- Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS): renting just the hardware and the tools used to manage the hardware (often used by startups and large enterprises)
Cloud computing lets you rent the technology and services that you want and generally to pay for it monthly.
That was easy. It does get a little more complicated when we add public, private, and hybrid cloud options, so we’ll cover that in a future post.
